BEIJING & CAMBODIA (June/July 2012)

The last time I was in Beijing was six years ago, when it served as an entry point into Tibet. At the time I found it hectic and could barely watch the crazy drivers. I remember sitting in the front seat of a taxi and thinking that was one of the scariest experiences of my life. Now the front seat of a Beijing cab is stress free compared to other cabs I have been in around the world.

Six years ago I was able to see some of the sights, including the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. There was also a failed attempt at the Summer Palace. This time around, I'm hoping to catch a lot of what I missed that first time. We're staying with H's family, with a few nights away in a hutong.

I also wrote a daily haiku last time I was in China, a practice I think I will resume this trip.

An auspicious rain
Washes away India
Welcoming Beijing
